ROBERT FRENZEL
Theaterscene “Is everybody already there?”
The arrangement of the gearswheels converts the monotonous movement of the driving mechanics into a
nearly random one. Thereby, the transmission let the head “move around” in all directions of the room.
The clown “checks“ if all visitors “already there”.

“Thunderstorm in Babelsberg”
The observer oneself can operate the automate by means of the crank. The movement of
this rotation is transmitted into a generator. The centrifugal force transmission which follows ithe rotation movement transfers
at a defined speed shock impulses to the lamps. The result - flickering and swinging lamps.
A dangerous thunderstorm!

„On the way as a snail“
Snails with their specific characters and natural talents only play a tiny little role in
artistic discussions. The movement of a snail and its own tempo are linked on an
apparatus that leads the motor ad absurdum. The technical complexity is used to set
down the drive to establish slowness as a principle. The generated motor sound in
connection with the slow movement of the snail is a bizarre performance as well as a
natural or an unnatural one at the same time. The lifelike movement of the snail is
playfully imitated. In doing so the snail slowly moves on a plate in its “beloved”
nutrition zone. The slowness of its movement puts patience to the test. Below the
plate a mechanic-technical movement apparatus is placed, that operates the animal.
The display of the mechanism is a counterpart to the snail: technique and nature are
symbiotically connected with each other.
The construction of the bottom section defines the movement space of the snail. This
limitation is visible for the observer by the surrounding ring of straw on the surface.
The power transmission between mechanism and animal is carried out by means of
magnets. The observer can route the snail with a remote control to practise its own
patience at the same time.
Enjoy!
